Regulations of the International Exhibition of Japanese Painting   
The Spirit of Sumi-e: A Selection of Paintings by Contemporary World Artists

1. General Provisions

1.1. The International Exhibition of Japanese Painting entitled
The Spirit of Sumi-e: A Selection of Paintings by Contemporary World Artists,
hereinafter referred to as “the Exhibition,” presents works inspired by the tradition and contemporary currents of Japanese painting, in particular sumi-e and suibokuga.

1.2. The Exhibition is organised by Atelier Margot – International School of Japanese Painting, directed by Margot Tohkou Olejniczak 東虹.

1.3. The Exhibition will take place at the Japan Information and Cultural Center (JICC) of the Embassy of Japan in Switzerland,
Engestrasse 43, 3012 Bern, Switzerland.

1.4. The Exhibition will present carefully selected works whose form and artistic concept correspond to the character and objectives of this international exhibition.

2. Conditions of Participation

2.1. The Exhibition is open to artists with experience in the field of Japanese painting, in particular in sumi-e and suibokuga techniques.

2.2. Submission of a work implies full acceptance of these regulations.

3. Submission of Works

3.1. Proposals must be submitted electronically by 31 of March 2026 in Polish, German, or English.

The submission must include:
– full name of the artist,
– country,
– title of the work,
– year of creation,
– technique.

The following must be attached:
– a general image of the work,
– an image showing the work prepared for exhibition (magnetic frame or kakejiku format),
– several detail images (close-ups),
– proof of payment of the 10 EUR submission fee.

The submission fee of 10 EUR must be paid no later than the date of submission.

The bank transfer reference must include:
full name and country.

Submitted proposals are subject to curatorial review and selection due to the very limited exhibition space.

3.2. Each participant may submit only one work, due to the limited exhibition space and the necessity of maintaining a harmonious and balanced presentation.

3.3. Notification of qualification will be sent electronically by 5 April 2026.

3.4. After qualification, the participant is obliged to send the original work to the indicated address, pay the exhibition fee of 70 EUR, and send proof of payment.
The work must arrive at the indicated address no later than 28 April 2026.

Please note: when shipping your artwork to Switzerland, the customs declaration must be completed carefully and correctly. According to Swiss regulations, if the total taxable amount (including the value of the artwork and shipping costs) does not exceed CHF 62, import VAT is generally not charged; above this threshold, import VAT of 8.1% may be applied. Any customs duties, taxes, and handling fees resulting from the declared value of the shipment are the responsibility of the sender. The organizer does not cover any customs clearance costs. If such charges occur, they will be fully charged to the sender.

4. Requirements for Works

4.1. Works should be executed in techniques characteristic of Japanese painting or inspired by its aesthetics, on paper, silk, textile, or other substrate, excluding glass and ceramics.

4.2. Maximum dimensions:
– width up to 50 cm
– height up to 140 cm

4.3. Works must be professionally mounted, properly flattened, and sent rolled. They must be prepared for direct hanging.

4.4. Works must be prepared in one of the following formats:
– traditional kakejiku scroll format,
or
– magnetic frames supplied by the artist.

The organiser does not provide magnetic frames.

5. Fees

5.1. The submission fee of 10 EUR must be paid no later than the date of submission.

The bank transfer reference must include:
full name and country.

Proof of payment must be attached to the submission email.

5.2. The exhibition fee for the whole organization of 70 EUR must be paid by 10 April 2026.
Proof of payment must also be submitted by 10 April 2026.

6. Transport and Responsibility

6.1. The cost of shipping the work to the indicated address is borne by the participant.

6.2. The organiser will ensure appropriate exhibition conditions.

6.3. Return shipping costs are borne by the artist.

7. Sale of Works

   7.1. Works presented at the Exhibition are not for sale. Exhibition Dates 

   8.1. The Exhibition will run from 7 May to 23 June 2026. 

   8.2. The opening reception will take place on 6 May 2026. Copyright 

   9.1. The artist retains full copyright. 

   9.2. The artist agrees to the use of images of the work for promotional and documentation purposes. Final Provisions 

   10.1. Matters not covered shall be decided by the organizer.

10. 1.1　本展覧会「The Spirit of Sumi-e: A Selection of Paintings by Contemporary World Artists」（以下「本展」）は、日本画の伝統および現代的潮流、とりわけ墨絵および水墨画に着想を得た作品を紹介する国際展覧会です。
11. 1.2　本展は、Atelier Margot – International School of Japanese Painting により主催され、主宰は Margot Tohkou Olejniczak 東虹 です。

17. 応募方法
18. 3.1　作品提案は、2026年3月31日までに電子メールにて提出してください。
    応募書類はポーランド語、ドイツ語、または英語で提出可能です。
19. 応募内容には以下を含めてください：
    ・作家氏名
    ・国名
    ・作品タイトル
    ・制作年
    ・技法
20. また、以下を添付してください：
    ・作品全体の写真
    ・展示準備済みの状態の写真（マグネットフレームまたは掛軸形式）
    ・作品の部分拡大写真数点
    ・応募審査料10ユーロの振込証明書
21. 応募審査料10ユーロは、応募日当日までに支払う必要があります。
22. 振込名義欄には必ず「氏名・国名」をご記載ください。
23. 展示スペースが非常に限られているため、応募作品はキュレーターによる審査および選考の対象となります。
24. 3.2　展示スペースの制限および調和のとれた展示構成を維持するため、応募は一人一点のみとします。
25. 3.3　選考結果は、2026年4月5日までに電子メールにて通知いたします。
26. 3.4　選考された作家は、下記住所へ作品原本を送付し、展示参加費70ユーロを支払い、その支払い証明を提出する義務があります。
    作品は2026年4月28日までに必着とします。

28. 作品規定
29. 4.1　作品は、日本画の伝統的技法またはその美意識に基づいたものであり、紙、絹、布地、またはその他の基材に制作されたものとします。ただし、ガラスおよび陶器は不可とします。
30. 4.2　最大サイズ：
    ・横幅 50cm以内
    ・縦 140cm以内
31. 4.3　作品は専門的に裏打ちされ、平滑に整えられた状態でロール状にして送付してください。展示時に直接掛けられる状態であることが必要です。
32. 4.4　作品は以下のいずれかの形式で準備してください：
    ・伝統的な掛軸形式
    または
    ・作家が用意したマグネットフレーム
33. 主催者はマグネットフレームの手配は行いません。
34. 参加費
35. 5.1　応募審査料は10ユーロで、応募日当日までに支払う必要があります。
36. 振込名義には「氏名・国名」を記載してください。
37. 振込証明書は応募メールに添付してください。

55. 著作権
56. 9.1　著作権は作家に帰属します。
57. 9.2　展示に関連する広報・記録目的での作品画像使用に同意するものとします。

59. 10.1　本規約に定めのない事項は主催者が決定します。
60. 10.2　本規約は公布日より効力を有します。
